Parents For Future Cheshire
On Saturday 11th July, the newly formed group, Parents for Future Cheshire, organised a local action in Nantwich as part of the nationwide #StopRosebank campaign. A small but determined group of parents, children and residents gathered in the Town Square for a group photo with our #StopRosebank banner.
Rosebank, the UK’s largest undeveloped oil field, is currently awaiting a government decision. If approved will release 250 million tons of CO2 over 25 years, which could have devastating effects on our planet and on our children’s future. Communities across the country came together to call for investment in a cleaner, more secure energy future instead of new fossil fuel extraction.
Despite the soaring temperatures and busy market day, Parents for Future Cheshire spent the morning speaking to local people about Rosebank and why the decision matters for future generations.
One surprising finding? Most of the 20-25 people we spoke to had never heard of Rosebank.
Many parents stopped to chat, took away information leaflets and said they planned to discuss the issue with friends and family. While not everyone could stay for the group photo, every conversation helped raise awareness of an important decision that will shape our future.
The photos from our Nantwich action have now been submitted to the national Stop Cambo and Stop Rosebank campaign map, and letters have been sent to local MPs, ensuring that the voices of Cheshire residents are heard.
Climate action doesn’t always look like huge crowds or major protests. Sometimes it’s simply a handful of people showing up, starting conversations and planting seeds that may grow into something bigger.
