Event Sustainability Support & Cup Hire

At Eco Communities, we believe that every event, no matter how big or small, can make a positive impact on the environment. If you want to host your very own events, we’re here to help make it green with our sustainability support solutions. We’ll assist you from start to finish, and can even provide recycled multi-use cups for your patrons to use to cut down on unnecessary waste.

Eco Communities: Making Events More Sustainable

Our team of sustainability specialists can support your event and make it better for the planet. We can help you with the following:

  • Implementing environmentally friendly sustainability support measures throughout your event.
  • Minimising waste and maximising recycling measures.
  • Devising energy-efficiency strategies to reduce event’s consumption.
  • Putting you in touch with trusted eco-friendly food and drinks vendors in your area.
  • Determining effective ways to inform and engage with the sustainability events attendees about the importance of green-measures.

Sustainable Event Cup Hire

We’ve all been to events and been faced with overflowing bins, full to the brim with plastic bottles, single-use coffee cups, and other containers from vendors who’ve not taken the environment into account when packing their stalls for the day.

Such occasions, particularly if they’re held in public spaces, will then often leave the bins un-emptied — leading to all of this waste being blown around in the wind and distributed around the local environment — where it likely sits for years.

That’s why, in 2022, we decided to start our very own sustainable event cup hire service. After some time trialling it at our very own occasions, we now offer cup hire for any organisation or business who may need it in our area — we even provide a hire and wash option so you don’t need to lift a finger on the day.

“If it can’t be reduced, reused, repaired, rebuilt, refurbished, resold, recycled, or composted, then it should be restricted, redesigned or removed from production.”

– Pete Seeger

Our Sustainability Support Event Checklist

If you’re planning to host your very own eco-concsious events, there are a whole host of different moving parts that must be considered. Think about everything that might be involved in your event that could become waste without proper consideration.

Could any of the following be switched to reusables? Could you opt not to use some of them when planning?

  • Plastic Glasses: Often used for convenience, plastic glasses contribute significantly to the plastic waste once an event is over.
  • Single-Use Coffee Cups: Typically lined with plastic, making them extremely difficult to recycle.
  • Takeaway Containers: Usually made of plastic or Styrofoam, contributing to non-biodegradable waste.
  • Single-Use Cutlery: Even biodegradable versions will often end up in landfills or incinerators when composting would be preferred.
  • Balloons: Popular for celebrations, balloons are extremely harmful to wildlife and often not biodegradable.
  • Single-Use Decorations: Often made using plastic or other, similarly non-recyclable materials, decorations are often discarded after events and sent straight to landfill — with relatively little tangible gain for the event.
  • Napkins: Used and disposed of after a single use, only adding to unnecessary paper waste.
  • Paper Tickets: Used for events, travel, or entry and usually discarded immediately after use. Digital alternatives eliminate this waste entirely.
  • Paper Tablecloths: Convenient but disposable, leading to increased paper waste.
  • Promotional Goods: Promotional products given away at events are often discarded and sent to landfill.

“We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”
