We couldn’t be more excited to be in the position of planning a fantastic week of activities across Cheshire West as part of The Climate Coalitions Great Big Green Week this year.

The aim of the week is to encourage people to get engaged with activities in their communities, and to celebrate and build on what is being done. Groups and organisations of all shapes and sizes are invited to plan something in the local area.

It is also used as a means of sending a message to our politicians, a way to tell them that we are playing our part, and that we expect them to step up and outline some of the policies that we all need to ensure a safe, green future for our country and for our planet.

Eco Communities has worked with and linked with lots of groups already to showcase all the fantastic projects in the region towards a greener, more sustainable future. We linked with Chester Zoo, University of Chester, Cheshire West Voluntary Action and many more excellent local organisations and groups.

Events planned for the week include; guided walks, talks, film screenings, litter picks, community greening, workshops and more.

We will start the week at Chester Zoo’s annual Wildlife Connections Festival. The event is a way to promote the Zoo’s Wildlife Connections Trail and other wonderful green spaces and environmental organisations in Chester including ourselves and The Great Big Green Week. It is also a chance to engage with a wider audience, like families, to discuss the connection between the environment and climate change.

We have lots more planned, including:

  • Online events throughout the week.
  • Chester University are putting on events during this years freshers week.
  • There will be a whole host of guides walks, talks, film screenings, litter picks, community greening, and workshops.

Great Big Green Week Festival

We are also ecstatic to be ending the week with a fantastic Great Big Green Week Festival, taking place on Saturday 25th September in Chester’s Grosvenor Park. The event is a collaborative effort with Cheshire West & Chester Council, Cheshire West Voluntary Action, Chester Zoo, University of Chester, Chester Fairtrade, Transition Chester, 10x Greener CH1. It will have an excellent selection of speakers, workshops and stalls selling eco, green and sustainable goods.
