Plastic Free Cheshire

People are more conscious of what they’re purchasing than ever. It’s this, paired with the ever-growing need to do what we can to help our planet, that led us, in collaboration with Surfers Against Sewage, to start the Plastic Free Cheshire campaign. Let’s kick the addiction to single use plastics, for a better Cheshire.

Why Plastic Free Cheshire is so Important

Invented in the early 20th Century, plastic has stood the test of time as an incredibly resilient and useful material. However, with the rise to prominence of single-use-plastic in particular, our society has begun to rely on a product designed to pick up and throw away at will, without a care for its impact.

Plastic pollution is a major environmental issue — a disaster that has been brewing under the surface for decades. The reason is, plastics take centuries to decompose. This means that every plastic bottle, wrapper, and bag discarded will continue to contaminate our environment and eco-systems for hundreds of years.

Traces of micro plastics are found globally, from the streets of the largest of metropolitan cities, to the shores of the most remote islands. Not only that, traces of micro plastics are even found in our foods, our drinking water, and even within our own bodies.

Plastic Free Cheshire places a focus on community engagement to educate people about sustainability and environmental conservation. We want to inspire people to set an example within their community, to cause a domino effect that encourages others to act and make change. Together, we can make this a healthier planet for future generations.

“It is the worst of times but it is the best of times, because we still have a chance”

– Sylvia Earle, Oceanographer

How You Can Get Involved

We invite everybody to join us; no contribution is too small. Whether you’re a business, an individual, school, or community group, there’s something you can do to help create a sustainable, green North West. Check out our upcoming events and learn more about how you can make a difference.

Individuals

As an individual, you can make the difference by reducing your own impact on our planet and on your local environment. By adopting plastic free habits — and encouraging your friends and family to follow suit — you immediately build a network of people doing their part for the planet. Join in our events, volunteer for clean-ups, and do whatever else you can to spread the word.

Businesses

Companies can lead the way when it comes to reducing humanity’s impact on the planet. Since 1988, just 100 companies have been responsible for over 70% of global greenhouse emissions. You can do your bit by implementing sustainable practices, such as eliminating single-use plastics, offering eco-friendly alternatives, and encouraging recycling among your workforce and customers.

Community Groups

Boots on the ground, tangible impact on a day-to-day level is the lifeblood of the Plastic Free movement. Around the world, community groups are playing a vital role in driving change within their towns, cities, and counties. You can organise local clean-up events, hold workshops on sustainable living, and collaborate with other groups and organisations to further amplify your impact and create a Green North West.
