👚 Sustainable Fashion: Charity Shops Under Pressure
Nearly 200 Cancer Research UK shops are closing over 18 months. Scope has already shut 50 stores this year.
Why? A perfect storm:
-
Inflation and rising business costs
-
Falling resale value of donated textiles
-
A surge in unsellable donations
-
High-quality items going to Vinted/Depop instead
The consequences:
📈 Higher waste disposal costs for charities
💸 Reduced income from textile recyclers
⏱️ Hours wasted sorting damaged items
🌍 Waste dumped overseas or burned
Charity shops are becoming a destination for waste — not charity.
✅ Donate only what you would buy yourself
✅ Choose better quality and fewer fast-fashion buys
✅ Support improvements to textile sorting and circular systems
Anything that cant be sold on and reword in Cheshire West need to go into your general waste currently – SEE MORE INFO

♻️ The Global Plastics Treaty Failed… So What Now?
It’s no secret — the fossil fuel lobby blocked progress on the UN Global Plastics Treaty. Negotiations are currently stalled, with leadership changes adding uncertainty. 😡
But there is momentum:
✅ The UN environment chief says a strong treaty is still possible
✅ Countries remain committed to keeping negotiations alive
✅ The High Ambition Coalition is doubling down — calling for full life-cycle rules on plastics
And even without a global deal, action continues through:
-
Regional agreements
-
Existing rules like the Basel Convention
-
Local and national legislation
We’ll keep pushing to hold governments accountable. 🌍✊
